not really, you id really need to see one and compare it to a transit to know what i mean. using a mk3 box and mounting plate is really the only tidy solution.

You are correct of course Oldskooler, it's much easier to solve problems when one either has design drawings or the actual boxes to hand.

And yes, a Mk3 power steering box will be be the best route.

Do you know where there's a Mk3 power steering box for sale by any chance please?
Mk3 power steering boxes seem rarer than honest politicians.

your not wrong there!!! very rare indeed, they come up on ebay the very odd time. i done some homework a while back on alternative boxes that would fit with a bit of modding. a crown victoria or lincon one looked like a possibility. there was a uk seller on ebay doing recon units quite reasonably. not sure if the rotation would be right way round, ie, would you need a rhd or lhd box. i also got hold of a 90,s rhd jeep cheroke box which was a possibility but that was wrong way round, so you id be truning left to go right, lol!! so again a lhd box id be needed. the mk3 power steering drop arm actually fits straight onto the cheroke box. i was hoping the smaller splined mk2 one would fit but no such luck, so i didnt go any further with it.

:)

Has anyone got lighter steering by setting their castor angle up correctly please?

It should make a fair bit of difference.
Less castor = lighter steering.
More castor = self centreing steering.

Mk1s had about 5 deg castor from memory.
Mk3s had about 1 deg.

Mk1s were designed around cross plies.
Mk3s were designed around radials.

Radials make your steering heavier.

people keep goin on about power steering my mk 2 is lwb the back is always half full of gear and in 8 years driving it everyday I can think of 2 occasions when I thought power steering but in these days of stop start driving the auto box is great a lot more use than power steering

Cool, what effect does the resulting massive negative camber have on your pre-take off checks please Neil?
