Is it possible?

Postby PhilnCarrie » Mon Jan 01, 2007 3:42 am

Reading this and having just taken a 2000 mile round trip to France in our 78 Ci Camper I am interested to know if it is possible to fit a 2.5 turbo Diesel in to the MK II. It has a non turbo DI at the moment which drinks a bit too much and takes its time going up Hills, so looking for a bit more omph and MPG. If its possible what would I need to change? gearbox? Prop? Axle? Your Thoughts would be helpfull thanks.

Also anyone got a heater fan motor to spare, ours decided that it would pack up just when the temp in france reached -5, good timing or what!

:? you wouldnt need to change gearbox or anything like that just the engine but the problem is the wireing is a nightmere to a turbo unless its done with a difrent pump! :? you could try fitting another pump to yours or getting it looked at to make shure its set correctly! :?

 on a turbo engine say for example, a engine from a 98 turbo transit ,everthing is controled by the ecu ,to fit this system would be a pain, somepeople have managed to come off the epic injection pump and go to a normal type bosh pump! but its alot of messing around!
what i ment was get your pump checked out it might need a tweek up!
di engines are funny ,you can get ones that pull like a train and others that are slow! :?

I have heard of peopel amking a hybrid pump with the top half of an Iveco pump and the bottom of a Ford pump, but not sure how. The specialist we go to ha sdeveloped a mechanical replacement for the fly by wire/ECU pump, it's around £600 fitted, which sounds a lot but from Ford a replacement pump would be over £1000,

You may wel find the pump/injectors need an overhaul by now, anyway

You could fit the 76PS injectors and turn the fuelling up a bit IF yours is fitted with the bosch pump

With that large 'wind breaking' motor home, I suspect that your MPG is in the low 20s :?:
