conrod wrote:Probably still a good improvement Neil. They would add 25hp to an otherwise stock Capri HC engine, but the biggest gain is in low-mid range torque. Apparently the distribution of air and fuel in the stock single carb V6 manifold is terrible, the centre cylinders get the lions share of the air and fuel, and the end cylinders are down quite a large percentage, less than 90% of what the centre cylinders get. The rear two cylinders run hotter as they tend to run leaner. The "W" deflector fitted by Ford under original twin choke was an attempt to alleviate this a bit. I can't imagine how bad the single choke setup would be, as the carb is very close to the front of the engine on these manifolds, and not centred like the twin choke. The triple carb setup gives one throat for each cylinder, and apparently wakens the engine up everywhere, not just top end power. I have not fitted and tried them yet, so cannot say this from my own experience, but a few people I know who have had them say the difference is significant and very noticable. And they look cool too :)

did ford fit the webber on the transit mk 2 :?: I can only say mine run fine on the single carb which had a governor fitted below it from new,, im sure the v6 ambulances had the single carb too,, I only went to webber as I could not find a new single at the time,, the webber does go better mid range :)

The rear cylinders also run hotter because of their position tucked up close to the bulkhead and shielded from air flow.

I've got a Essex v6 with a 38dgas that is bogging down on acceleration

I think plugs leads fine and I've just done away with points and fitted electronic ignition but still pretty much the same so I'm presuming carb related

Where should I start? It starts runs idled lovely

the v6 Essex in a transit from ford had a single carb and lower compression engine I fit a 38 weber on mine and had the same issues so I went back to single carb and points the way it was built and no further problems if the transits had an engine swap from a capri or Granada then the 38 should be fine I think it has to do with the way its jetted

Yes capri lump

What about timing? It's been so long I can't remember how to use the lamp, mines an old britool one not digital it's got a moving needle

On running engine I remove vacuum from dizzy rev it to 3000 and setting timing lamp to 13btdc I move dizzy till the Marks align on pulley is that correct? Or am I supposed to do it idle?
