Newbie, greetings, happy to be here with small "getting to know you" problems on pretty little transit.
Was hoping the following might sound familiar and a few wise heads can help me decide on a fix strategy
Under engine braking (down hills) I pop out of gear, audible click and I´m either free wheeling or grinding away. I Rattle stick, hope for another audible click and on we go. Often although not always soon followed by a selection failure. Last few times I´ve ended up stuck in 4th (from memory I wasnt in 4th...
). Stop, unscrew plastic cap that holds stick into gear box, remove gear stic, reach in with handy flat head screw driver and flick the centre spline selector thing forwards (i think), stick back in and cap back on, continue on merry way, wave happily at bemused fellow motorists. Sweat heavily Sometimes gears are not available during normal operation, usually going up the gears rather than down. Wiggle the stick back towards second, then its sweet again.
Gearbox in normal use is smooth and easy, normal noise levels.
So, I´ve changed the stick for another I happened to have, same things happen.
I´ve another gearbox of the same type i can use. Looks ok.
Its got to be fixed and I´ve a couple of choices it seems,
I´d love to hear the view of others who know more than me about these things
