clear front indicators

Postby conrod » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:31 pm

I recently bought these off Ebay, as I quite liked the look of them.

I am curious though, can anyone tell me the origins of them?

Are they an export market/euro spec type of thing? I have never seen them before, even in brochures. They do not look like aftermarket repro items, the quality is very good, they are essentially identical to the Magnatex orange indicators I already have, but the brand on these is "ARIC"

yes you are quite right:

A friend of mine here in NZ has several NOS lenses for the early (pre 1970) front indicators in white, and we were trying to figure out what they were, or where they were from. I just saw a pair of tail lights on ebay from Malta, with the "ARIC" brand on them, so I am thinking they may be genuine parts, perhaps for the European market? All of the German firevans I have seen pics of have orange lenses though. :?:

I found them on Ebay, they came from Portugal. I just checked and the guy has another set, same price I paid for mine (£30)

He was good to deal with, no problems. :D

Hi Neil, do you mean dedevil had the split lens lights, or all clear lights? I did a search but cannot find pics of that van.

As I was saying above, a friend of mine bought a stack of NOS split lenses for a pre 1970, and both lenses were clear/white. It really had us baffled? They were definitely for the pre 1970 Transit, which had a cast aluminium bulb holder that the lenses screwed into, unlike the post 1970 lense which had the bulb holder rivetted on the back of the lense with hollow brass rivets through the screw holes.

I have been trawling through a few Transit brochures, including a few from "foreign" countries, and I still have not seen period pics of them. :?:

I saw a set on Ebay with chrome outers, you mean like these?

And while I have your attention, why did some of the orange lenses have the chrome outers, and others did not?

hi conrad, would like to buy a pair of these clear front indicators. Are they the complete fitting or just the lenses? Will they fit the mk1 1977. ie. Are they a direct replacement for the orange units. Have you the name etc. of the guy in portugal who sells them.Send me a pm if possible.

HI guys,

the clear ones at the top of the page are exactly like the orange ones, ie. they have the bulb holder attached inside them. They will fit any Mk1. Sorry I don't have the contact details of the guy I bought them off any more :( They do still pop up from time to time on Ebay. I don't have any spares, just the one set I bought.
