TRANSIT MK1 1.7 V4 SWB CAMPER 1974 WHAT CLUTCH KIT ? ? ?

Postby 75mk1transitcamper » Tue Apr 23, 2013 10:05 am

Hi guys,

I need a new clutch kit for my 1974 mk1 transit campervan i brought a brand new old stock transit mk1 v4 clutch kit from ebay and it all is the same (release bearing and friction plate) apart from the pressure plate which is slightly smaller around the outside edge (not the bit the clutch plate sits on thats the same diameter) and the dowls/bolt spacing is different and the holes dont line up with my flywheel it is a very small difference but its enough to stop me fitting it. Mine is definitely the smaller size clutch 8 1/2" or 215mm.

The local parts shop my dad uses as his in the motor trade have even ordered in a corsair v4 clutch kit and a pinto clutch kit and they both have the same difference on the pressure plate.

No one seems to be able to tell me what clutch kit I need and mine is a UK built 1974 registered late 1973 build date 1.7 v4 enginged canterbury mk1 transit short wheel base transit 90 campervan.

I was just hoping that someone on here might have come up against this problem and knows what clutch i need as im very confused by it now. I know fords were on stike around that time so maybe they fitted a different flywheel/clutch set up i really dont know? ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers :)

:)

If you can't find anything, here are some options.

1) Have your old pressure plate reconditioned.
.. . . . Sorry, I don't know where, try some vintage car clubs.

2) Use parts from the new pressure plate to rebuild the old one yourself.
. . . . . Most mechanics should be able to.

3) probably the best solution is to get your flywheel drilled to accept the new cover plate.
. . . . . 25 ti 50 in folding stuff should cover it.

Good luck.

Hi,

Hope this helps,

My van is a 1975 1.7 V4, I couldn’t find a clutch kit so I had to buy the parts separately, the number on the box that the clutch pressure plate came in is Q 10027.

If you do a search on the internet it appears that .it fits a popular plate and fits a lot of other vehicles.

Let’s know how you get on.
