Followed a nice mk2 spec lift last week. Had the oppurtunity to speak to the driver as the vehicle he was towing ( suzuki Vitara ) lost a rear wheel right in front of me. Forunately it never hit anybody or anything and finished high up in a hedge. MORE importantly it missed the tranny although the wheel did give the side of the vitara a right clout LOL. Appears the tranny was formerly the property of Birmingham airport. Anyway left my calling card with the preverbial `if you ever decide to sell her`

The last 'unknown' Mk2 I saw was a B reg phase2 in white with a blue drivers door on Marylebone Rd. It was a sorry specimen. Before that I haven't seen a Mk2 I didn't know for over a year. Longer than a year for a Mk1.

Don't you just love it when your driving your Mk1 and a VW
camper comes by on the opposite carrigeway with the occupants pointing and their jaws wide open?..........

So you bought the parcel van off Gumtree! I nearly rang the seller about that, would have made a good blocker or Police mobile HQ van.

80. Tim 1973 van converted to camper

There's a coincidence, we have a 1972 camper reverted to a van! Shame we didn't know about the vans before hand, could have saved us both a lot of trouble.....

Ive only just caught up with this thread, has anyone thought of writing to the Society of Motor Traders and Manufacturers, they used to have information about registered and/or taxed vehicles of a type... I was Chairman of the Ford Cortina MKII Owners Club for 10 years and someone on the committee managed to get it... although it was about a year old at the time. The only thing it doesnt account for, is vehicles that have been scrapped without documentation.

You need to put this in the 'How many left' thread mate, Luke put a link to it on page one, I think it's a sticky at the top of this section.

why not do a mk1 & a mk2 register section of the forum like the escort and capri ones that way when a van changes hands (or fred adds more to their collection) just a case of up dating the register and maybee add pic to each van that way everyone will know who has what and can work out the most common part of uk for them
if its got tits or wheels its always gonna end in trouble !!!
anyone can restore a van but it takes a real man to chop it up !!!

I have just returned from a mates house, and he has a Mk 1, on a G plate, with 11,000 miles on the clock. I may be able to get a few pictures, if anybody may be interested. When I say mint condition, it would make Trebor mints look dirty.
