Postby Mfd-18v » Wed Jan 29, 2014 12:00 am

Hi guys i want to put power steering on my 79/80 mk2 transit camper

Iv been told i can use the power steering box from the mk3 transit but i cant fine 1 any where

Any ideas where i could get 1 or could i use 1 from a ldv convoy ect as i know they use a steering box ??

Or is there any other options thanks

Lots of posts on here re steering upgrades. What you are looking for is rare. Maybe consider electronic?

Convoy is quite different, and would be very difficult if not impossible to get it to work. (I have a LDV 400 van, same as Convoy, and have checked this already) I found a Mk3 PS box for mine, but it took a year or two to find it. As the guys said, electric PS column retro-fitted is probably easiest way to go.

Have you driven the camper much yet? They aren't really that heavy to steer once you are used to them if everything is OK, Yep they aren't as handy as a modern power steering vehicle for parking in mega tight spaces but its doable.

Just an aside checked the front tyre pressures 54 psi! But it doesn't wander about so i'll leave them at that.

I havent driven it much but i have found out (mot) the king pins need replaceing/greesing so fingers crossed that might explain the stupidly heavy steering

Hi LDV convoy & 400 power box don't do it !! I have just striped that very item back out of my mk2 as I only get it steering half way at one side not enough travel in the box so it's a deff no no. Just go electric if you need it cheers G
