The sierra box is a type 9, general agreement seems to be while you can bung loads of power through them in a car, using them in a van leads to them dying a death with no warning, you'll need the transit gear lever set up to go on it as well.

NOOOOOO!
Go for an MT75. If its a pinto you will need an adapter plate. You also need the crossmember, front prop and to cut a new hole in the floor. It a bit more work but worth it.

I did this years ago with the MT75. Fairly easy conversion. Gear stick comes up a bit to the right, so you will need to cut a new hole etc, and you will need a different prop. Can't remember what I used there, but was all fairly simple. And I am not a mechanic, and did not find it too challenging.

dunno about a kit, but try Dieselhead on here. Other option is to buy a donor van (up to Mk4)

Hi there, has the Transit got a Pinto in it at the moment?
If so then the Mt75 can be fitted using standard Ford parts as used in the later Mk3 and Mk4 Pinto powered Transits.

You will need an Mt75 gearbox, gear lever, speedo cable and clutch cable.
You also need the engine/gearbox adapter plate, flywheel, clutch cover, (you can use your existing center plate).
You also need the Mt75/Pinto starter motor and the Mt75 gearbox cross member.

It will probably be easiest to modify your porop shaft, if so you will need the gearbox end of an Mt75 prop.

We are able to supply most of the parts that you need from stock, feel free to send a PM for more information.

Hi, I'm trying to make the same mod on my MK2 that currently has a 4 speed gearbox (should be the "G" type).
Someone know the correct prop shaft to use?
Mine is twin wheel vechicle, and I have a MT-75 gearbox with complete propshaft from a single rear wheel Transit model 1992/1994.
I'm also considered to cut and modify the shaft but a correct part would be preferred in order to mount as is with less work.

a lwb mk3 prop should fit but you need a later mk3 that had the mt75 the pre 1988 ones have the type 9
but they are getting hard to find so......

alternatively get any mk4/5 lwb prop and shorten it - or have it shortned you will need to make up a centre bearing bracket but it will be in the correct line and height so not that difficult

Thank you. The donor of the MT-75 gearbox and the complete transmission shaft (prop shaft?) is a Ford Transit model 150L single rear wheel, lbw (wheelbase 3570) and the gearbox is a W8. These data are on the Vin plate. Mine instead is an old MK2 with twin rear wheel, model 160, wheelbase 3000.
If I've understood i can keep the rear portion of my original propshaft and use the front portions of the 190L transit, shortening it (cut, flanging and weld, it's right?)

.... I forget to ask if the wide ratio (W8) gearbox fit my twin rear wheel (at the moment I don't know the ratio of the rear differential)

the prop you have should be able to be shorted to fit - check the rear flange - i'm not sure if it will be the same as there are so many different variety's

ive never really noticed a difference in the 2 gearbox ratios - i dont think theres enough in it to bother about :D

I will try to shorten the front prop and joint it with the original rear where is the bearing support in the middle ...
As for the gearbox crossmember, can I mount one from a MK3/Mk4 whitout mods?

no the mk4/5 cross-member wont fit only the mk3 lwb one but it doesnt take much modding to get it to fit - all the chassis rails are the same width
