Building your own towbar.

Has anyone built their own towbar/trailer hitch?

Since I will probably have to re-register my campervan I figure that i might as well
fix it up with a towbar and hitch since I am a competent welder and I know a place
where I can buy scrapmetal for about 1€ a kilo ad they alway have stuff like square
steel/iron in the thicker varieties. And I have a likely piece of steelplate thats about
5-6 mm thick to use as well.

Since i got quite an overhang from the rear axle the way this van is built right now
I think it might have to drop the hitch about 20 centmeter to get it in the right height
for it to be usable with most trailers.

a mate of mine has just welded his own onto his mk4 vauxhall astra van - works a treat

I have made a few over the years hilux ,landrover ,Bedford midi,ezzi van
Simple enough you can't go far wrong welding thickish stuff up

I Might do some frame reinforcement while I'm at it
