fitting mk3 bits

Postby 8ball » Wed Apr 16, 2014 4:01 pm

Hello new here i picked up a mk1 camper im hoping to turn in to a handy beaver tail for the odd bits id need done instead of having a trailer and jeep ect. and have also wanted one for a long time. any way i picked up a mk3 front axle and twin wheel back axle and i no i read it here that the back axle should go on but looking at it the spring seats are in completely different places (about 10mm or so shorter on the axle i have off a mk3) i have the bit that bolts to the spring and the chassis at the front of the leaf springs am i just being paranoid and when i take one off and offer up the second one should it all bolt up?

also when fitting the front axle would i be better to use the full axle and spring off the mk3 or use the mk1 springs thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been asked before i couldnt realy find what i was after

Back axle i cant help with but the front i would use the MK3 springs and bolt the hole deal in.
My MK2 front springs were really soft in comparison to the MK3, unless you have heavy MK1 diesel springs i would go MK3

I take it you are fitting the axles to a twin wheel LWB Mk1? Depending how early it is, the rear springs have slipper shackles.
