Very sad ci motorhome

Postby KerryB » Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:51 pm

I went to my local classic club meet today and I have been given this poor neglected motorhome. Personally I think it is too far gone to put back on the road, I will hopefully get it to mine soon, I need to wait for local haulage company to have room on one of their flat bed lorries, but for now here are a few pics to make you smile about your own projects, after all it couldn't be this bad.....could it !

Well, I've done some searching online and it looks like it just might be possible to put this old girl back on the road, all of the panels and parts seem to be available ( why oh why are parts on ebay pick up only, so not fair ! ). It looks like I might be doing so shopping south next summer and filling one of my Transits for the trip home. There are some restorations online that make me believe that with time ( couple of years minimum ) and lots of money ( smile nicely at the bank manager :D ) she can be put right. The interior seems to be all there, except the cooker and fridge, but luckily I have available a mid 1970's Thompson Glenalmond caravan that is going to be scrapped ( needs new chassis and wooden frame ) so hopefully these will be similar if not the same as the ones in the ci. All of the cushions are there and in good condition, the shower tray is broken but I will get a local fibreglass place to make a new one of these.
Parts I know it will need or work needed.
Front wings inner and outer,
Windscreen scuttle.
Door bottoms both sides,
Front cross member.
Front bumper.
Fuel tank ( cap has been off for years )
Steering wheel and cowling
Lock set ( key is lost )
Passenger mirror.
Windscreen rubber.
Both steps.
Cab floor needs welding, rubber mat seems complete though.
Drivers seat needs repairing.
Bonnet doesn't open.
Oh big hole in the rear needs fixing !
So to sum it up, bit of welding and carpentry, lick of paint a full service and she's ready to go :D
I will take more pics when she gets here, but here are some more for now.

This old girl can thank Baconsdozen for the rescue, I do believe that it is possible to put her back on the road, especially after looking at their Mk1, check out their link.
Cheers Kerry B.

Good news! Another one to possibly be saved.
Keep an eye on here for parts and vans being broken. The bit under the screen will possibly be the hardest bit to do (take paper patterns of the shape before you take the screen out) and the cross member. At least with a van like that most of the rust is what you can actually see,in lots of ways better than one that has recently been daubed in filler and paint with lots of rot waiting to break through again.
There was a Mk 1 being broken in a yard near me a while back I'll have a look and see if its still there.
Keep us informed of progress, please. If you need any help/advice ask on here they are a friendly bunch.
Regards
Kevin
