longest clutch cable

Postby Luke » Tue Aug 05, 2014 9:40 am

does anyone know what the longest clutch cable available for the mk2 transit is :?:

the reason i want this is my mk1 firevan is now rhd and has a mk2 pedal box fitted but the clutch arm is on the opposite side - ive got a standard pinto cable but it's too short - ive looked at the left hand drive ones and they look similar - not sure if the lhd ones had the arm on the other side??

a mk5 Di one looks long enough but the fitment at the pedal box end doesnt have the mk2 adjustment on - and that would be handy

i dont mind what end it had on at the release arm end as i'll have to make that fit anyway but it would be nice to have the correct fitting on the pedal box

so if anyone knows of the best suitable cable (especially if you have one) could you let me know the part numbers too if possable to make it easier for my search

cheers :D

i can't find any A-series on ebay and i would prefer to have a standard one just incase it breaks - i was hoping a lhd one would have the arm at the same side as a rhd one so the cable would be longer and i could use it - and also get it cheap on ebay as no one else would want it  but so far no luck

I would be surprised if Ford used too many different pedal box connection designs. So would a Granada or Sierra one fit ? From Burtons catalogue they give lengths of cables and these seem to be the longest. eg Granada is about 1.23m long. Although I wouldn't trust the pictures to give you any idea of the end connections it might be worth checking to see what the actual Granada ends are like.

i'll have a look doug  - the problem is the transit one goes directly down through the bulkhead and the car ones tend to go forward through the bulkhead :)

My mk4 2.5di is a left hooker. I'll have a look under it in the morning and see what side the arm is :D

Late smiley uses manual adjust at pedal end

Ford Transit 120 TDI EPIC Automatic. 0-60 in a leisurely and smooth 12.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in 19.1 seconds. Now where's all these faster? manual Di s?

its got a loop with a pin through it - what ive done get get by is use a normal Di one with the auto adjuster and got the adjustment by packing out the mounting point

i'll only be able to tell how good it works when i get it running - but if the late smiley one will fit then that might be what i need as the length on the normal one is ok :D

how much did that cost?

ive got it working with the Di one now - just no adjustment - but if all goes to plan i'll have the engine and box swapped before the clutch needs adjusting :D
