Mark 1 parts in Australia

Postby Tranny78 » Wed Aug 20, 2014 8:31 am

I'm close to making a purchase on a mark 1 ice cream van, that needs work.

How hard are parts to find in Australia?

Has anyone here dropped a falcon engine & transmission in one?

Thanks

According to a mate of mine in Aus parts are easier to find there for a Mk1 than in the UK.

Most already have the falcon 6 fitted, if not you'll need the bullnose front and I think bulkhead modifications, if its ex- Aussie Post then they mainly had the 5.xx diff ratio so top speed is about 80 kph on a good day.
Theres a couple of people breaking Transits in Aus that I know of, I think the guy in Dandenong (Victoria) has an ad on here.

Odd thing to check is rear light lens condition I knew a guy in Queensland who couldn't get a replacement pair to pass the RWC.

strange that, every Mk1 or Mk2 van I have seen in Australia (including the one I just bought from Adelaide) has had the colour faded completely out of the rear light lenses to the point they appear clear. They look like the aftermarket ones people sell to "update" the look of a lot of cars! Must be the level of UV light down this end of the world being much higher, due to more sunshine :) Easy enough to get replacement lenses off Ebay anyway.

Yep thats exactly what his had done, but they had also gone brittle so when he took them off to spray tint them they just fell apart, like you say though easy enough with the internet now to get replacements.

plenty of people selling parts and wrecking them, there is the place in dandenong, i wreck one every once in a while, and there is a guy in connewarre who buys/wrecks them. the 200Ci 6 was fitted from 1973 onwards, so if yours is a 1972 or earlier you may run into issues putting a 6cyl in there (depending on your states laws). i have 3 4.63:1 ratio diffs here so i should be able to sort you out with a set of diff gears if need be.

Thanks for the information guys that's a real help.

I got onto the place in Dandenong. They can pretty much overhaul the van.
