Early Transit Rear Lenses Identification Assistance

Postby TheTransitCentre » Tue Oct 28, 2014 11:21 am

Hi Guys,

Looking for some assistance with an item we found hidden in an old box in the stock room. Rear Indicator lenses Genuine Ford but which Mark are they? I was told originally they were MK2 but having looked at Fred Transits Catalogues on this forum I'm having doubts. The centre panel is black - no reverse light lens???

Anyone point me in the right direction?

I can never see the attachments on the phone, but they sound like late mk1 tailgate model lights. They dont have a rubber door bumper.

pretty sure that is late Mk1 (1976-77 last facelift) and early mk2 up to 1979, tailgate body. After that, they switched to the tail light without the black centre part on the lens, and the lens and backing are one piece, like this one (p/n begins 79VB...) :

Here's a a questions for you Brits. The Mk2 vans were assembled here in NZ until 1980, and had fitted the same tail lights as the ones pictured above (the late Mk1 version) All of the vans built here were barn door style, so had the rubber insert. Did early UK built Mk2's have the same late Mk1 tail light, or were all fitted with the plastic one piece type like I pictured above? Trainspotter question I know, but it does relate to the thread and original question.
