Postby DodgeRover » Sun Nov 30, 2014 8:37 pm

As above, theres nothing on my plate indicating maximum train weight - obviously this means i'm ok to 10 tonnes :D or maybe not....

Its always had a class 4 (same as a car) even though its not a minibus any longer, I did question it last time as I was expecting it to be a class 7?

Class 4 is weight related car/commercial, class 5 is light PSV for buses over 10 seats used commercially

Yep got a gross vehicle weight but nothing about towing weights, just wanted to be doubly sure of what I can tow legally..I need to get it on the bridge soon as well to find out what i'm actually running about weighing normally.

Odd that there is not 4 figures on the weight plate - is it the manufacturer weight plate you are checking?

What does it say on the V5 keepers form?

I asked VOSA about this (old vehicles without weight plates)...

The response was so long as its "safe" its fine. But "safe" has to be determined by a court of law

The guideline is simply that the trailer should not weigh more than the prime mover

On the mk3/4/5 the 130 bus is the 15 seater and has a train weight of 5500kg

KenB helpfully posted a photo from his particular handbook in the topic "mk1 190 towing weight" which is a page showing GTW based on GVW for mk1. I can see no reason why the Mk2 should be any different. The actual weight may be different so will affect how much you can carry but I would say that the total weights should be the same as the chassis is essentially the same.

So try this link to get to it:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89802&p=765721&hilit=GTW#p765721

This page is not in "Normal" handbooks only the one that Ken had at the time

Also class 4 is up to and including 3000kg GVW. Class 7 is 3001kg and above. My Mk1 has a GVW of 3000kg (not 2950kg) and is class 4.

Cheers

I count it as a 130 Firewagon, but it is a slightly odd one. It was first registered as a Firewagon for the Ford works in Cologne (I guess they had a few) so has a few oddities like the GVW being 3000kg on the original German wagonpass, and the optional servo (drum) brakes on a 72. It also has a towbar.

It is now UK registered and has gone through a couple of MOTs. It is on the limit of the regs at 3000kg exactly and VOSA have it listed as a class 4.
