Back axcel / diff

Postby Nickredbelly » Wed Dec 17, 2014 6:27 pm

Hi All
My Mk 2 Transit has developed a screeching sound underneath. I have replaced the prop shaft centre bearing but the screech is still there. I think it might be the bearing in the diff. Does anyone agree ?

Cheers Karl, I didn't know about that. I Will check it in the morning. I assume then there must be something like a grease nipple somewhere on the diff.

Once the level plug is out the oil should just start to come out along the threads - you top it up through the same hole. Use the correct oil and not grease!

Thanks for replies. I have topped oil up in diff and have greased up all u/j joints but still have a metallic rotating screech/squeak. This sound is not produced under engine just idling or being revved. Noise only occurs when in gear and moving along particularly in reverse and easing off the revs when slowing down In 1st and 2nd. Could it be something to do with the clutch maybe ?

my van has the same noise only in reverse or when coasting/slowing down in gear. As soon as I push the clutch noise stops. Did you find out what was wrong with yours?
