What axle is it and how to change the ratio?

Postby Snead » Mon Jan 05, 2015 10:55 am

First: sorry about my english but I am not native.

I do have a Transit MK1 from 1975
twin wheels
1700 cc german V4 engine

Can someone tell me what axle is showen at the pictures?

The diff do have a ugly 1:5.8 ratio ... low max. speed and very noisy ... I want to change to a ratio around 1:4

It is hard to find parts for it. Anyone has an idea or tip?

From the single wheel atlas axle I can get easy the diff, but it is not plug and play. Otherwise I think about an adapter .... bad idea?

Thanks for every hint and help.

That is exact the axle. But where can I buy this "gear and pinion assy" with 1:4.63 ratio?

It looks, that Mk1, Mk3 and Mk3 have the same "gear and pinion assy"...
First picture it is for Mk1, and finis number for ratio 4,63 is 0620768.
Second picture it is for Mk3 (1985-1991) http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_ ... d_model=69 and finis number for ratio 4,63 is... 0620768 8) 8) 8)

It wiil much more easy looking for this parts from Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 models, than only from Mk1.
Remember about shims - for pinion bearing adjusting. It has 18 different sizes... - it can be problem with correct adjusting.
