How can you tell apart a 2l v4 from a 1700v4 and are all 17s German ones

The essex dizzy is at the front, cologne at the back

you can get essex 1.7 and 2.0

externally i dont think there is a way to tell an essex 1.7 V4 from a 2.0 V4

the cologne ones the biggest is a 1.7

Stick a long piece of wire down the plug hole and measure the stroke.
Funny how time changes your perspective. I can remember driving a brand new LWB two litre down a motorway. We were all blown away by the size of the van and the indicated 75mph. Compared to the commers and thames etc about at the time,the transit seemed amazing.
