valve lash on 2 litre essex

Postby roaddevil » Sun Jan 18, 2015 12:46 pm

i wonder how to set the valve lash on this 2 litre engine. For me it looks like a hydro cam . Or have i really to do it on the main bolt from the rockers ? And if so , wheres i can get the special nutsocket that is required for this? Sorry for my bad english

Hi its not hydro, just plain pushrods and adjustable rockers.
engine to be cold when adjusting your settings
inlet .35 mm
exhaust .4 mm

my way, perhaps there is a better one:-

take out all sparkplugs
choose a pair of valves to set
turn the crank until you see both valves are closed
use a soft bendy PLASTIC straw in the plug hole to find when the piston is at top dead center
adjust your valve settings with the funny nut you cant find a socket for. most cheap socket sets have this type of 12 segment sockets in them. im not sure if it is a mm or inch size though

repeat for all 4 cylinders

do you use lead additive in your petrol to help keep the valves alive?

good luck

Great. i forgot to write the most important thing - remove battery lead before working on engine. Safety first, just in case the starter motor should kick in when youve got your hands in there.

Or just make sure the ignition is off.
