10k miles from new mk1

Postby BigCol » Mon Jun 29, 2015 9:56 pm

Just registered on here so HELLO!

I've just bought an ex-German (I can hear the groans! ) fire brigade mk1 lwb with 10k miles on the clock and in amazing condition inside and out wearing 95% original paint.

Needs a few odds n sods doing and just wondering if there are any good sourses for parts please?

Carb needs a good looking at, fronts springs and no sun visors. Are new springs available? i'd like to at least drop the rear end about 3 inches and sort the lopsided front.

Cheers,

Col.

Welcome. Is this the 1971 van that was for sale? Looked nice.

I've not long bought a 78 mk2 ex german fire van myself. Proper time warp vehicles aren't they?

Got any decent pics of it?

she's a 74 and was one of a pair being sold. I've seen that the guy put them on here for sale a little while back. she's deffo a time warp as even the factory door cards are mint just a little grubby as are the seats..... she's a real cracker and will be much better with all the fire related bits n bobs removed.

I'll try to get to grips with posting pic's and put some up once polished up, wheels re-painted and de-fired.

cheers

That's the one, they were on Ebay, etc for ages too. Looked at them online but wanted a mk2 so got mine instead.

Mines the same, it's lovely how well the German Fire Brigade looked after them. I'm keeping mine as a fire van. Looking for a pump to go back in it.

My lopsided front on a firevan turned out to be be the front spring bushes etc just holding up. It was fine after a few trips as things eased up and started moving properly again. New rubber bushes would probably fix it properly though.

Cheers

Very nice!

This is my 17k miles from new Mk2 ex Feuerwehr Transit. Seems the mk2's are rarer?

I'm keeping mine as a Firevan as it still has pretty much everything with it apart from the pump (hope to get hold of one at some point)

I love it. Proper time warp vehicles.

yes mk2's are rarer - possibly due to the fact all the fire stations had mk1's for 30 years

ive got a register of all the ones i could find in UK ive got a few more to go on - need to get round to updating it

Cool register of all the vans. Feel free to add mine. Don't forget the County mk2 Feuerwehr van that was imported by the owner of the other mk2 EYB 216X.

Incidentally EYB 216X is for sale on Ebay now, needing some finishing off.

I'm pleased to say I've now got storage sorted for my mk2 so hopefully it'll last another 37 years stored inside.
