Small but quite heavy : 800 kg / 1000 kg
Stainless steel isn't light.

I'd like to paint the van to match the caravan : pale blue with white roof.

hi and a warm welcome to the lovely city of Le Mans first!

from own experience i think the Cologne V4 engine is nothing that will make you happy, except you want low power, high fuel comsumption and a very high break down rate (expect troubles with the fibre gears every few thousand kilometers). perhaps you can find one with a 2.0 Essex engine as English engines are far better built and more durable.

in my country (Autriche) we had both German and English Fords, and back in the days i had a couple of Transits with Essex engines, which gave me plenty of kilometers troublefree motoring.

sorry can t help you with hints for a conversion, as in my country it´s not allowed to put a different engine in - but good luck with your search!

The german V4 doesn't seem to be powerful, economic nor reliable...
I guess it is not fully legal in my country to convert without an expensive inspection by our local " Tüv", but how many technical control centers will find there is a difference between the engines ? Anyway, who can tell me which donor car I can find with the "Essex" engine ?

If you checkout "autoscout24" for ex fire vans, theres some on there with the essex in.The easy visual reference is the distributor at front on essex, rear on colonge. Some fire vans were fitted with the essex from new.
If the guy doing your "tuv" is young, chances are he hasnt seen either engine before..
Van would look good blue/white,Chrome effect business graphics down the sides and you will have a perfect match!

I fitted a Sierra V6 3 litre into my 1970 van (Same shape as yours)
Didn't fit the bull nose - cut into the fire wall and mounted the motor further back.
Using it in conjunction with a Toyota 2.8 gearbox - bags of power
