Mk1 transit supervan questions can you help thanks

Postby bigjay » Thu Dec 24, 2015 3:56 am

Hi .did the mk1 transit super van use mk1 escort bubble arches ?

Was the van done in ermine white or diamond white ?

Anyone know were I can get the stickers copied ?

Does anyone what wheels were used or similar wheels could be used .the van I got has got six stud wheels .i could use 5stud wheels as i got spare axles etc ?

What size are the tyres or what's the widest tyres you can get for these size wheels ?anyone know the size of the wheels and tyres ?

they looked like Escort bubble arches, but were much bigger. I tried a set on my van a year or so ago. I think it would have been Ermine white, as the van was built in 1970/71. Diamond White did not come out until 72 or 73 I think? The wheels were custom made, and I have never seen a good picture which shows what style the centre is. They are cast magnesium or aluminium one piece wheels. The eyecrometer says they are about 15" diameter, and about 15" wide, front and rear. Any half decent signwriter should be able to copy those stickers.

The wheels fitted below to my van are 10" wide front, and 13" wide rear, and they look quite small compared to the original Supervan. Also, those are Escort bubble arches. Could probably be reworked to look the same, but probably easier to start again.

Yes Neil. 335/35x15 rear on 13" wide rims, and 285/40x15 front on 10" wide rims. They don't look anywhere near the width of the original SV wheels, sidewalls look too low profile too. I think SV was using Firestone racing tyres from a CanAm or single seater racing car, probably 15 or 16 inches wide.

yep BF Goodrich used to do a 265/50x14, but discontinued. Quite sure SV had 15" diameter wheels, as this was the most common racing wheel size back then. The die cast model I have has Revolution style wheels fitted (four spoke) but I don't know if this is an accurate reproduction or just a guess by the manufacturer!
