Images of lowered Mk1s?

Postby Droopz » Thu Jan 28, 2016 5:07 am

Hi everyone. New to the mk1 scene but not to modifying world at all.

It's looking likely that I've scored myself a 71 mk1 recently, and as per usual I'm keen to start the build plan. The goal so far would be a patina-ed and signwritten promo van for a local business.

One of the first things I was interested in was methods used to dramatically lower these old buses. My understanding is (haven't actually seen it yet) is that both front and rear use spring-over-axle setup, so the obvious next step is to spring under I presume? Or would boxing and notching the chassis and changing to a 4link be more appropriate. Not after a race car, just need it low.

I've also struggled to come across much in the way of inspiration in regards to modified mk1s online. Is there a reason i'm missing? Are they just hard to work with or something?

Cheers all.

people dont tend to modify them that much 90% prefer original as its worth more then but there are some nice ones out there either old 70s custom vans or a few have done mods with wheels and stuff

like the sound of the project tho

How have they achieved this look with the wheels?
Have they chromed a set of original wheels, or just polished them?

I want to do the same with mine...
