Mk2 back axle(swb single wheel)

Postby bulls in transit » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:59 pm

Are the back axles on mk2s interchangeable with axles from later series Transits, would they be bolt up or would more work be req?
(Swb Van),or would it be simpler to just change diff(if so what would fit)

not really - the diff will fit in the axle casing but the halfshaft splines are bigger on the later axles - pritty sure mk1/2/3 would all interchange but mk4/5 wont (interchange with mk1/2/3)

also think you could swap the cw&p between them all - but never done it myself :D

what are you wanting to do? if you want to swap the whole axle over - apart from widths the spring mounts are the same - only the shocker mounts change :D

Mk2 back axle(swb single wheel)

Agree, seems a small issue, worry was availability of parts(diff/axle to fit),think paperwork might be more the problem...had a Mustang myself that only had minor issues, brake pipes, shocks etc that sat for 15years,it can happen, translating description sounds like it was finished, broke and was given up on,agree end price should be lot higher than current bid,was just trying to work out my ceiling price.
Haven't been able to find ad for axle, just looking to find ballpark figure to work into budget to see if it's a feasible one...
I'm hoping the German market for mk2s will be the same as it was for mk1s a few years ago, people buying the just out of service ambulances/fire/radio vans working with low Kms and aTUV as opposed to ones that need work

Been outbid, not too surprised, but with transport to Spain because of it being a non runner just reached runner money.
Had a lot of work in past, power steering, balanced flowed lump, bigger rad,oil cooler,cam,40dcoe Webber etc. ad says it need fluids changed and axle and battery, speedos been changed cos original didn't show enough kph!?,probably why diffs gone....still cheap if you've got your own transport and nearer than me.

Mk2 back axle(swb single wheel)

Postby bulls in transit » Mon Mar 14, 2016 11:24 pm

Really think it's one of those "what's it worth to you" vans, hard to estimate price because it's not std,but attractive still, depends on how many really WANT a van like it.It would cost a bit for a copy of spec, and a solid shell with good paint.
But if built today, would you use pinto or a zetec?
