OHC Carb differencies

Postby Sumu » Fri Apr 01, 2016 4:50 pm

Hello from Finland

I have a ex police transit '84 with OHC and automatic gears. Engine is no longer LC , new one is from Sierra with some old weber that does not work well.

I have problems with carburettor and I wonder if 1.6 OHC Taunus mk1(Cortina) has similair 1V Motorcraft carb.

What are the main differencies? What size main jet must be changed? Other parts?

It'll be down to jetting sizes I would think. My 2.0 OHC mk2 has a 78HF carb on it, which is a 1V.

You are best off replacing it with a new Weber tbh.

More fuel more advance just remember that .

Pinking is over advanced. It sounds like someone clanking a chain behind van.
Best thing is advance til it pinks and back off a touch (whilst at warm idle with vac advance pulled off dizzy and vac blocked temporarily)

Hi everyone,
I am new on this forum and not really familiar with it yet,so sorry if my post is a bit off.
I have a Transit mk2 130 converted to a camper. When I bought it it smelled very much petrol in the exhaust so I thought the carburettor was malfunctioning and installed a weber 34 instead.(manual choke)
I followed the instruction for idle adjustment and mixture and the motor runs fine when it is cold. However after driving for 15 minutes or so it stops if I lift my foot from the accelerator pedal.
Pulling the choke prevents this but then the idle speed is to high and it will use too much petrol.
Valves, ignition and airfilter housing have been checked and are correct.
What can be wrong? Thanks in advance for suggestions,

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed?

If you need to pull out the choke to keep it running, it could just be that the choke is giving you the increase in idle speed or it could be that it the engine is running too lean.

As you have changed the carb, it would be worth double checking that there is no air leak into the manifold between the carb and the engine which would weaken the mixture. Perhaps since you had trouble with the previous carb, it might be the gasket between the manifold and the engine, and the previous owner made the old carb run rich to compensate.
