Ford V4 Running on.

Postby baconsdozen » Wed Jul 13, 2016 8:50 am

My V4 engine hasn't done many miles since a rebuild. Although it doesn't pink,it will run on on 95 octane fuel, when it gets really hot it will also do it on the overpriced eco sh*t 99 stuff.
It only does it for a second or so,has anyone tried fitting one of those valves that were fitted to some fords letting air in with the ignition off?. I have some of the Wynns combustion cleaner stuff (in fact about two dozen tins of the stuff) but have never used it on this engine or any V4. I dont really want to take the heads off,any ideas ?

Anti-dieseling valve they called it :)

Ford fitted one to my 1979 Escort (back in 1979!) when I complained that it was running on.
It simply let air into the inlet manifold when you turned off the ignition, and the valve was held closed by a 12v live feed.
It caused me problems a couple of times when it blew the fuse when running  :P

How fast is it ticking over? That can sometimes cause running on.

Thats right,I couldn't think of the name, anti dieseling valve. Tick over is slow enough,I use an additive to try and slow valve stem recession,I think some of the deposits may have built up in the heads. I think I'll try the valve I seem to recall they were also fitted to some BMC engines.

My old 1976 Sherpa Diesel had one, but that was the only way of stopping the engine :P
