Suspect waterleakage

Postby grub3r » Mon Jan 02, 2017 7:44 pm

Hi all,
MK1 V4 1977

I suspect waterpump is leaking and I need help identifying which model it could be, maybe finding right part-number.

Im reading in workshop manual and it mentions that these are not serviceable parts(or that it is difficult to service these)

are these pumps known for leaking and is it much work to replace one?

please check the attachment, I've observed water drops in red area, black is to the radiator, there is water on that pipe too(suspect coming from higher up somewhere)

regards,
Dan.

I only have water pumps for the Essex engines. I have full and just fronts depending on what you need.

OK guys,

this is a German build, distributor behind carburettor.

check the picture, it looks like the Haynes book describes another unit.

does this german engine waterpump consist of 3 parts?
does anyone has a schematic of it?

This is not van, this is Chassis :))

It's in two parts, you undo the pipes etc and iirc there's 5 13 mm going through from back to front, the bit in the middle is a plate connected to front of engine, you only need to undo these to remove, pump bit drops foreword, back back(if you undo hoses at rear of heads connected to pipe that goes to backplate of pump youll have plenty of movement to remove)
Motomobil gmbh sell pump and gaskets.
I'll see if workshop manual has schematic and post pics

Workshop manual just has a pic of front of pump coming off when you undo 5 bolts from rear, does say what I forgot to,you have to take alternator off to do it,could it just be perished gasket?
Would say don't overtighten alternator belt when reinstalling, knackers the balance shaft bearings when ran too tight

Hi,

thanks for the info. I really my Haynes book does describe Essex engine water pump. Its design looks different from what I can see on the car.

If gasket is done for, means that both(in front and rear) should be changed.
how would you change to new one, would you use some kind of glue or liquid gasket on top/under of the paper-one?

thanks

Replaced both gaskets and used gasket sealant on all cleaned surfaces on mine, haven't had any problems since.
