MK1 tickover

Postby Ellwood » Sun Feb 12, 2017 5:32 pm

Hi, my MK1 has the standard carb on her. im wondering about tickover-

is the correct way to adjust the air screw 1.5 turns out then adjust the butterfly to get the correct tickover,
or close the throttle butterfly totally, then adjust the airscrew to obtain a tickover?

i tried both methods, and ended up having 1.5 airscrew turns, and had to open the butterfly a tad, but is this the correct way?

ps is this actually an airscrew, or a fuel screw?

Screw on front of carb is fuel screw, factory manual setting is all the way in then 1.5 turns out, tick over adjustment is rear screw opposite throttle cable. You adjust tick over after you have set auto choke operation,by turning this screw, the adjustment is done with engine warm(i.e. Choke off),but you have to have the fast idle cam adjusted correctly.
Info above is for 1.7 cologne fomoco carb.
The manual has approx 5 pages going through all adjustments,if you want more details pm your email and I can photo pages and send if needed

Yes thats the one in the photo, a Fomoco. except mines a 2 litre engine. without the automatic choke. great guys, thanks. that gives me peace of mind that the fuel screw is correct at 1.5 turns out.

ps the fuel float valve nr 7 in picture has a tiny filter inside, which had blocked up on mine.
