drain antifreeze V4 cologne

Postby grub3r » Sun May 14, 2017 2:42 pm

Hi,

reading the book, it says draining plug on radiator but it does not exist
it aslo says draining plug on engine beside to oil-filter, which aslo missing..

how to drain the system on Cologne V4?

is it only the hose on the bottom of the radiator? But will the engine drain as well?

regrads.

My cologne's got a 13 mm plug each side of block just below head on rear two cylinders on block, also got a drain plug on rad, mines the later cologne(post fall 67),don't know if earlier ones differ.

I've not seen a drain plug on a radiator for years, so disconnecting the bottom hose at the radiator pipe is the way ahead. I always took the opportunity to flush the engine and rad using this access point, whilst it was disconnected 8)

Hi,

mine is 1977 1.7
My cologne's got a 13 mm plug each side of block just below head on rear two cylinders on block, also got a drain plug on rad, mines the later cologne(post fall 67),don't know if earlier ones differ.

will check these points and report back.

I've not seen a drain plug on a radiator for years, so disconnecting the bottom hose at the radiator pipe is the way ahead. I always took the opportunity to flush the engine and rad using this access point, whilst it was disconnected 8)

Would the engine flush through the radiator access?

regards, DB.

The drain plugs on block are directly under the rear two most spark plugs, next to rear engine core plugs, the one on filter side is hard to see,its behind external metal water pipe/hoses.
Radiator drains right next to bottom hose so removing hose does same job on mine.
Water in heads/heater won't drain from bottom hose, but will from block, found this out when changing heads on mine!

Presumably, you would need to remove the thermostat to drain it completely via the bottom hose :?:
