Purchase Transit MK2

Postby Roshen » Sat Jun 24, 2017 7:33 pm

I'm new here and from the NL. I'm lookin for info about maintance and restore a Transit MK2. I don't own a MK 2 and I'm planning to purchase a MK 2 next year. The first thing I really want to know more about are the engine types and gearboxes. I like to know more about 5 speed gearboxes and if these still can be purchased.

Looking forward for your replies.

Kind regards,

R.

First thing, no Mk1 or Mk2 Transit has a 5 speed drom new. Standard gearboxes are 4 speed manual, 4 speed manual with overdrive and 3 speed automatic. Mk1 has 1.8 diesel, 2.4 diesel depending on year. 1.6 petrol inline 4, 1700 or 2000 V4 petrol, 3.0 V6 petrol engines. Mk2 has 2.4 or 2.5 diesel, 1.6 or 2.0 Ohc inline 4 petrol or 3.0 V6 petrol.

I am planning to sell my 1984 MK 2 Transit Crewbus/Minibus that has been with me for 15 years in Spain. The mileage is genuine at 102,000. It has a 2 litre OHC Pinto engine which runs beautifully - as does the whole vehicle. It passed its MOT (TuV) this month for a year and is on the road as my regular workhorse. If you are interested, let me know via the forum.

I should have said in my last post that I'm back in the UK now and that my MK 2 is right hand drive. The MOT was at a UK testing centre, not in Spain - sorry!
