towing weight

Postby ThevanV » Mon Jul 03, 2017 10:31 am

As I want to use a Mk1 , maybe a early Mk2 for towing a racecar on trailer , about 1600-1750 kg incl tyre rack packed and winch, I would like to know what the official towing weight as stated by the factory are for the different LWB models. Will be a LWB.
I have in sight a diesel with later type engine and 5 speed box, and a 1971 former firebrigade car with 1.7 V4 (engine will have to go for a later type TDi engine)

BE, but that is no issue overhere in Holland. On car registration is stated what is allowed. They issue that based on data from factory. Or what is stated at papers when import . (germany states most of the time a weight).
Many overhere in holland are not allowed to tow because on registraion zero kg in that spot. or just 650 kg even when trailer is braked.

And that is my problem: I will need a legal towing weight issued of at least 1500kg...

original data from factory would be best! with paperwork to proof.

See this link to a topic in which KenB posted a photo from a Mk1 handbook:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89802&p=765721&hilit=GTW#p765721

This is from one version of the handbook but most simply said refer to the data plate. However some data plates did not specify GTW.....

Anyway this is the correct data.

You need to replace from "viewtopic..." in your url address with:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89802&p=765721&hilit=GTW#p765721

or try

OK, sourced a older dutch topic on this, and on guy maneged to get 2700 kg on it legally for towing. They did use the weights , a.o. the GTW on the type plate of the car. Is a mk2. I do not think the MK1 will get this kind of weight. GTW should be around 5700kg for this..
