Bull nose to flat front

Postby Boffin » Tue Nov 28, 2017 8:36 pm

Hi guys, I have a bull nose mk1 van, I'd like to put the flat front on. Has anyone done this? And what is different? I know the bonnet and front panel obviously, think I saw somewhere the wings are different?? And is it easy to swap the panel below the front panel? Are the spring hangers to far forward?? I already have a petrol front bumper.
Thanks for any advice :)

Why is yours a Bull nose? If it has a diesel engine or a Pinto petrol then the flat front wont fit.

Thanks chaps, I have seen a pinto in a flat front before though.
So to do it I can keep the spring hangers in the same place maybe shorten the chassis rails and try and get a new flat front crossmember (bit behind the bumper)
Thanks again chaps :)

the chassis rails only need shortening in front of the front spring hangers

also pinto's are squeeze in a flat front and now old hat,.......... get a zetec in there - shorter so more room for one too :D

When I fitted a 2.0 Lt in to my mk1 v4 I left the flat front bumper as is but I used a bull nose front and bonnet and a York radiator the front of the pinto just cleaned the front x member

Pinto will go in a flat front but needs modification to radiator and removal of fan. What I asked is why you have the bull nose, if you have a diesel then flat front deffo wont fit. If you have a Pinto in there then you will have to do work on the front of the engine and radiator or move the engine back. I find the most succesful way is the latter

Or cut the x member and front or chassis legs off and weld in flat front x member

That still wont help with the clearance at the front of the engine

True but to turn it in to a flat front you still have to cut the chassis legs and x member.its a hell of a lot of work to move engine back if it was me and I really wanted to fit a flat front I’d fit a 1600 cc Kent engine in

Thanks chaps, I'm not worried about engine as I can modify anything to go in. I was just wondering the difference between the 2? So the wings are the same, different front panel and bonnet (obviously) and just shorten the chassis rails to fit a front petrol/flat front crossmember, get rid of the bull nose bumper and extension bits and use flat front bumper.
Are the flat front crossmembers available any where?
Thanks for your help chaps.
