battery cut-off relay, what type?

Postby peteMK2C » Sun Jan 28, 2024 2:53 pm

Hello everybody,

I'm from Germany and new on the forum.
Running a beautiful 1985 Facelift MK2 Arca Camper with 2.5 DI Engine.

The motorhome has a relay installed on the right-hand wheel arch. Probably a battery cut-off relay.
Here are 2 pictures:

Does anyone here know the relay, or does anyone know exactly how it works and what specifications it has? Spare part number or similar... ?
If I could get some information about it that would be fantastic. It still works, it's just that I would like to know exactly what it is and how it works.

Thanks,
Pete

It doesn’t look like a Ford part with the crimp on terminals maybe a split change relay with it been a campervan.

It's an old type solenoid relay, its basically just like a starter motor solenoid, just search for "round solenoid relay" if you want one the same, but you could use a square one, or even swap it for a modern relay, its just a switch really, the yellow and black wire going to the small terminal will be the "trigger" to switch the power between the two big terminals

Thanks for the help!

Searching "round solenoid relay" gave me in deed right away a dealer address for both, the old tin can design and the newer square versions of high-load relays.

As a matter of fact... I found out, it IS the Starter-Motor-Solenoid

I was wondering, does anyone know if this Relais position, e.g. mounted on the wheel arch, is standard on all MK2 Transits?
