IFS in a mk2, can it be done? has it been done?

Postby troppo » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:08 am

G`day guys
As the title says, can you fit Independant Front Suspension to a mk2?
If its been done can anyone point me to any links or information on the job?
I`m in Aus and am thinking of improving the ride of my 78 mk2 as well as the availability of mags etc.
Cheers in advance guys

have a search on here theres a progress thread on it with pictures - ive done it twice now :D

your better off using a mk3 as a donor as the front chassis holes line up with a mk4/5 they need redrilling :)

Thanks luke
Just did a search and have read that thread from one end to the other, great info on there.
As your the first aussie i have found in here with experience on these old girls (and i dont know didly squat) do you know of any parts that straight swap from say a falcon of the day?
I ring my local auto parts guys and they say "78 transit, sorry we dont have a listing for them" I`ve got the 200 crossflow with an auto box behind it and the manual i have found doesnt deal with these engines. Are the tune up specs the same as the falcons and corti`s?
What driveline parts are suitable for straight swaps from better known aussie vehicles?
Body work isnt a problem for me but the mechanical area i can do but have no experience with these old girls.
Cheers mate

As you know, I have done a bit of messing about with these beasties!
Somewhere on here is my project thread on the '69 bus and what has been done to it...it will get IFS some day...
