MK1 Essex Overdrive fits the same way the 4 gear box fits?

Postby phaidros » Sat Apr 24, 2010 7:54 pm

:D

am running an '74 firewagon here in Germany, but am annoyed about the
4 gear box. So I am thinking about getting myself an overdrive.

As I have the Essex V4 engine it is quite difficult to find docs and references
about that, because most people here drive the cologne V4 engine.

I'd really need to know, what needs to be changed / replaced when I'do to
replace my 4 gear box to an overdrive. Any hints and ideas about that?

Or would it be just plug'n'pray?

thanx!

Pretty sure that the back gearbox mount is different and the propshaft is a different length.

Baconsdozen knows about this.

Other than that as we describe it "suck it and see bro"

You also have to alter the exhaust down pipes to stop them hitting the crossmember. If its the older type box that hangs from a mounting that attaches to the top,the old monut will have to go.
