BMW diff m8 really. most beemers gear boxes are same 1.6- 2.5l, its the lump n the diff thats the decider on speed.

could you fit 2nd gearbox? be mental to have TEN or 11 gears n 6 reverses!

yeah i realise that dude, i mean you might struggle to match ratios if for example transit gearboxes have different ratios to bmw ones. dont forget bmw dont make vans but if they did theyd prob be 6 liter with truck boxes.... you might have to graft in the bmw diff if you cant get a suitable transit diff with correct or near ratio? :D

plus have you any pictures? was it much work to fit the engine? is it an m50/m52 engine? nice loud 6pot roar with k&N if its petrol

It was no big deal. I'm not trying to match the ratios just need to find the highest ratio axle / diff that was fitted to a twin wheel mk1/mk2 and what model it was fitted too. Thanks again Pete.

you will need to fit a rear axle from a mk1 or mk2 with the ratio of 4.63 ,this is the best ratio you will find!

great conversion 8) 8)

4.63 is the highest easily available for the twin wheel axle, still not really high enough for high speed highway cruising on 185,80,14 tyres but certainly better than the other lower ratios.
by my calculations in 5th gear at 5500rpm you will get around 100mph so around 20mph/1000rpm

probably a good compromise for speed and load hauling.
