timing belt

My timing belt snapped and I fitted a new one following instructions on this site. Engine is now turning over but not firing. There is fuel coming up to the injectors. Any ideas? Thanks Phil

Did you peg it all up correctly?

Was it working properly before it snapped?

Did you check pushrods?

have you replaced the push rods and checked valve clearences

It's a non-turbo 2.5 and the three pegs went in fine. The engine was working fine before the belt snapped. Taken the rocker cover off and everything seems to be moving fine.

you need to take the rocker shaft out and replace or straiten the push rods

Push rods and valves are fine so we replaced the pump with a new 2nd hand off a working engine which made no difference. The fitter reckoned with the pump lined up for cylinder no 1 number 4 was actually opening so we decided to rotate the pump by 180 degrees. Guess what ........... still didn't fire We decided as we'd tried 180 we may as well try 1/4 turn either way. We turned the pump 1/4 turn clockwise from the timing mark and she fired straight away and ticked over lovely with no smoke or misfiring Can anyone explain this. It's a lucas pump.
