jacking up transit MK5 front wheel change

Postby vana mana » Sat May 11, 2013 10:32 am

Had to change the front PS wheel ,used the jack supplied from fords 'wind out type ' placed it under front spring hanger, but was wondering if its ok to use on another point for front wheel changes.on my mk3 it has beam axle on front so easy but got Mcpherson axle /coil spring type , is there a part of this closer to the wheel I could use?c

Any help please or even better pictures
Thank you as always

The OEM scissor jack (for a 6 stud) has a pin sticking out of the top which locates in a recess in the spring hanger (front) and a recess on the rear axle where the springs mount.

Because of the pin you can't really use it anywhere else.

(5 stud jacks are different and dont have the pin).

But TBH, the best thing to use is a scissor jack under the wishbone ;)

I jack the suspension arm (not sure if this is the wishbone) and on the rear jack point. I carry a 2T trolley jack and a 10T lorry Jack just in case, both with blocks of wood.
