MK6 axle in MK5

Postby Guy88 » Sun May 12, 2013 4:41 pm

As above, is it a strait swap to fit a MK6 axle in a MK5 :?:

guessing the handbrake will be different but does it bolt strait in?

Well the flange sizes on the 6 stud and 5 stud mk5 are different...

I know the spring perches are the same distance apart. Apart from brake lines etc I would think that there can't be a big difference between the dims of a mk6 axle and mk5 6 stud axle?

Wheel bolts will be different too, unless the half shafts are interchangeable

Is this to change the gearing? Because if its a six stud mk5 there may be a chance the crown wheel and pinion will swap over. I had this done for £225 + £125 for the axle but that was a mk5 twin wheeler. But this would need checked out first before committing.

got a crown wheel and pinion to fit for now,

Its a DRW axle, was thinking of 4.63 and 16" wheels would be idea

And if a MK6 axle fits then a MK7 wouldnt be hard so discs on the back too

Would you change the front setup to? otherwise you will need to carry 2 spare wheels one 15" one 16". A mate of mines mk6 has a 4.27 rare but they are out there.

i carry 2 spares anyway

i think the 4.27 would be too much for the 100ps i have, its got to pull at full train weight most of the time

Sounds good! discs all round will definitely be good with full payload. Here is a handy web page for calculating rpm, diff one at the bottom. http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html
