got some rusty arches here,some you can push your finger through the first layer im ganna cut it out with the grinder and fill the holes what with so the bodge doesnt fall throu?? then its gettin sanded and primed and tekaloided with a nice darl blue so you cant see any brush strokes

For temporary repair, until you're ready to replace the wing, Flashband is your friend. It sticks on with a heat gun. You can paint it if you wish.

true i sanded it down left it to the eliments rotted straight away this time the primer going straight on any recomendations for good undercoat primer me vans spot on just couple holes on arches am coverin them with connect plastic ones in the end anyway after painted ,canny van only got 60thousand on

Cut out all the rot, either plate covered with Glass fibre mix and stick to underside, let it go off then fill top hole with fibre glass sand down( better to use the grinder with a flapwheel) then smooth out with filler, prime then paint. Done properly it'll last years. Just wire brush under the arch to give the fibreglass more to hold onto, then smoothout and underseal over.

Regards tekaloid (or alkyd has its really called) if you get a litre @£10 ,thin down 20% thinners 80% paint and use a cheap mini roller from b&q with the gloss roller, build up thin layers you'l have no brush marks

thanks very much n8 thats really good helpfull advice! im gonna cut the rot out with a grinder did you say fill the hole with fiberglass mix wer do you get that,is ther a cheaper way because im covering ther arches with plastic transit connect ones but still wanted to fill holes for longer lasting thers only a couple of holes of rust on the arches rest of the vans belta!

Just put fibreglass filler into ebay and a small tub is @£6 pp free, i get all my stuff from a dedicated paint shop.

I've just completed undersealing /welding the underside of my van ( ldv convoy) all areas that are more exposed to water etc impacting on i.e. footwell, i've cleaned off and fibreglassed to give more protection then tetrosealed over. Inthe chassis i sprayed old oil and the rest brushed on tetroseal except hard to get areas then i used spray underseal. This is the first time its been done methinks since it left the factory, i will check every year for rust etc, if no signs i will just spray will old engine oil with a tub of grease mixed in.

Done many vans like this with good results.

cheers av orderd me paint today jenetion blue tekaloid 5 lts and 2lt of primer +my spray guns orderd aswell so ganna be all systems go so can get away for the summer av just bought 2 mint ramps n all its up looks mint easy to get under al post some pics up

Hi,
Just to say, it sounds great that you will repair the problem areas.

BUT However, remember to try and track down why it was rusting away in the first place!

I did similar to this last year, keep looking out for holes in the roof near the gutters going inside the van and down the pillars.
Look at the roof seams at the beginning of the gutters, near window screen!
The mud guards are a biggy
Door fitting
And if your going to such a bother, have a look underneath, firstly. Undercoat!

As your using glass it will not rot their again but if you have a leak then the rust will just appear nearby and weaken your arches again
advice read the forum on rust, their are many tips.

cheers halla like a say the arches are gettin coverd anyway with connect ones but stil gonna get ridda the rot sanded them down ages seems like so as you expose transit metal to eliments it spreadys like wildfire daily could prob watch it like multiply ha so anyway all the gears orderd its comin ,a got mesel a good set of ramps yesterday so all gud ready to rumble when this rain pisses off like
