Welding vision.

Postby vanfox » Thu Sep 29, 2016 2:54 pm

May be the wrong place to post but.......
I've just posted "What have I done to my van today-this week"
I use a Clarke MIG and auto dimming mask. Problem is I can't see the job, only the arc. I have to use a halogen torch under the van, the weld often goes wandering.
Which helmet do you use and what can you see?

What he said ^^^ also try sticking some ultra bright LEDS on it to light up where you are welding so you can see better before you strike off rather than getting in position then flipping the mask down starting welding and finding you are now 1/2" away from where you needed to be.

Mine only let me down after being in a dark corner of the shed for nearly a year.
Brief spell in direct sun light and normal service was resumed.
It's had some use and abuse over the years but still works :D

One problem is that the auto mask works on a scale of darkening lenses, usually from 9 to 14 or thereby ( light to dark) If you cannot see the work, get an ordinary mask and fit a lens of density 8. Lots more light and vision.....
