which model 2.5di?

Can anyone tell from photos which N/A 2.5di this is?
The exhaust manifold has a flat flange with 3 studs leading into a twin pipe downpipe which merges to a single pipe.
I never managed to find an engine number anywhere and its not the original engine - which was petrol. The vehicle itself is a 130 twin wheel camper - originally a MoD ambulance.

Twin downpipe is 76 or 80PS dependant on year. Air filter is mk4 turbo

Thanks Matt. It sounds like the engine may be a mongrel - turbo air filter on non turbo engine. Can any exhaust manifold be fitted to any 2.5di? The camper is 1991 twin wheel lwb 160 and is very slow, so I had assumed it was a basic 70hp version - but sounds like it maybe has a later engine then? On the front of the cylinder head is cast "16F92" - does the 92 refer to year or is it irrelevant?
as from the Haynes manual, the 76 and 80hp versions seem to from '95 on. Should it have the banana inlet manifold to go with the twin downpipe? Power may be a bit down from the small bore exhaust pipe 45mm dia from mid section back - thinking of getting a s/s custom exhaust made up to see if it helps.
Dave.

Is it ? looks like a late 70ps air filter with a different intake pipe ?

Yes

Its a 70PS inlet manifold, TD air filter, 76/80PS downpipe and a bosch pump - which is either one of the very first or a later addition.

The code you gave indicates its a 1992 engine

Would fitting a banana inlet manifold make any noticeable increase in power? I'm intrigued as to what was changed from the earier 70hp engines to increase the power to the 76 or 80hp versions - different injectors and pump? - or larger valves ? Or what?

If it is the 70ps engine then its worth remembering that it will never be fast, especially when carrying a full camper body around. I have a 70ps coachbuilt and when up in the Pyrenees in the summer we were, at points, down to 16mph flat out. I have the lucas pump so not much tuning potential but if you have a Bosh pump you could look at increasing the fuelling a bit?

It has the Bosch pump - VER431 - I've turned both adjustments up as far as possible without blowing lots of smoke, which has certainly helped ....but still very slow.

You could retro fit a turbo, it still won't be fast if you've got a big camper body but 85-100ps will be a lot better than 70-76ps.

It is not a big camper body - basically a twin wheel lwb hitop - but does weigh 2.5tons.
I assume retro fitting a turbo would mean changing/finding
Inlet and exhaust manifolds, turbo, oil pipe, new injectors? different injector pump? modifying sump, new exhaust. Anything else?
Is the engine still reliable afterwards with the increase in power and load on everything?
