MT75 gearbox oil, is there an equivalent?

Postby Retrohowla » Sat Jun 23, 2018 11:49 am

Hi guys, I'm sure you'll be able to clear this up for me.
Getting my refurbished 1995 mt75 gearbox in( 2.5td) and popped into local factors to get some mt75 gearbox oil.

I'm then told it's been superseded by some kind of 75w90 synthetic manual transmission fluid, apparently that's now listed as suitable for all 90's mt75's.....

I doubted him and left empty handed, the trouble is nowhere seems to stock MT75 oil around here.

Can you please confirm, do I need to go online and source MT75 oil or is this new synthetic stuff suitable?

Thanks in advance

I remember reading on here that the new version won’t do any harm but people saying the gear changes aren’t as good and when they refilled with mt75 oil all was well again so i would say get mt75 oil.

Thanks Chuggy, found that one and also went back to the factors today and showed them it is readily available.
The rather more helpful chap working today agrees and says he can get it in for me at £5.50 a litre, happy days!

Thanks again guys, you've been a great help!

You can fill 75w80 or 75w90 no problems there. I fill years 75w80 and never one problem. Problem with changing gears is when chaps put sae90 oil then its problem

Ran mine on Dextron III ATF for years. MT75s seem to like a grabby oil fir the syncros to work properly.

Speed boxes can work on any oil.
On the motor, including.

I also use such oils.

ATF Dexron III mixed with 75w90 (1:1) here. Has run for 60000 km without problems.
