The heater resistor on the Transit IS prone to corrosion and simply dying.
So once you have located it's position, http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12288 the rewiring is a simple enough job, new crimped wires will often be needed.
The 'correct' location (according to how Fords built it) isn't exactly that great a place.
To attempt to re-attach the resistor in this location is awkward to say the least due to the severe lack of clearance and will ultimately fail becuse of the water that will find it's way to it.
On the MK5 the front support strut has a hole that a 13mm nut and bolt will fit through. Use this hole and a nylock nut.
Fix the ally cradle first (you may need to elongate the slot slightly) and gently bend it in so to be able to hold the resistor, this cradle isn't an earth so nothing to worry about there.
The wires will kind of hold it in place anyway but a tight cradle will always be that extra bit of help.
The replacement of the heater resistor is now a quick job and due to it's new location less likely to get effected by water.
Since I don't have a MK3 or 4 to check there may not be the same hole but it will be easy to drill a suitable hole.
