only way you will cure a whine is with a replacement diff.......

you could try some oil additives to quiet it down.

1..... sawdust
2......handfulls of polystyrene balls as found in the local hobby shop
3......something like STP oil thickener. the stuff they sell you to quieten down a noisy diesel engine.

ideally speak to captain hook and ask him for a decent axle or diff

m8 even good ones whine, save your money and turn up the stereo!!!! spend ya dosh on something cool like a winch or some nice wellers :D

unless it really sounds like its gonna blow up its really not worth the aggro!

unless you wanted to also change diff ratio , then its worth it !

it should be EP80/90 or EP90 in the diff - but they are quieter if you put something thicker in ;)

Re: mk5 diff oil

Hello. Have to top up the rear diff oil on my mk5 1995. I think there is the original oil inside and doesn't seem black or dirty. So I don't want to disassemble the diff (and there is no removable cover to easy drain it out). Regarding some old manual is h-type diff which requires sae 90 diff oil.
I just dont't know if top up with mineral or synthetic type of oil? Did ford use synthetic back in 1995?

Thanks
Deko
