gates cambelt kit width problem

Postby pedracer » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:49 pm

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230844164110? ... 1497.l2649

listed as 94-2000. But it's a 28mm belt. and it doesn't fit my 1996. Which is 25mm width. Arse. should be listed as 1997-2000.

any idea what the correct gates kit part number would be for the 25mm belt?

BTW, many thanks to the folk who have done the "howto" features on the transit engine.

As it happens the ebay item number i posted earlier seems to be the kit you require gates part number K015571XS and at 25 quid plus delivery is a more realistic price for a BRAND NEW GATES timing belt kit :!: :!: :!: some of you want to start looking in the right places for your bits you could save a fortune, there is a recession on you know :!:

I have been hunting for a cam belt for my 1999 2.5TD.

In New Zealand prices can be over the top .

Ebay purchases take time to be delivered,

So far my quest has been to follow up on Gates belts and kits

To me it looks like the two widths are 25mm and 28mm approximately.

K015571ZS kit has a belt of 130 teeth and is approximately 25mm wide The matching belt alone is 5571XS

The later Transit Mk 5 takes a wider belt

K015572XS kt has a belt of 130 teeth and approximately 28mm wide. The matching belt alone is 5572XS.

It looks like the automatic tensioner in both kits is 32mm wide and 60mm in diameter. Gates Tensioner Pulley T43124

Could someone who is familiar confirm or correct that info please. :D :D

Tensioners are the same on both belt kits. You will need 28mm wide

This is not true.
The width of the toothed pulley on the crankshaft Mk4 is less than 28 mm.
A wide belt simply does not lie on such a pulley.
To use a 28 mm wide belt, the crankshaft pulley block must be replaced.

You're quite right, but Matt said that the tensioners are the same, not the pulleys, and this is a Mk5 we're talking about here :|

The author of the topic worries about the width of the belts, and the tensioning rollers of both types are used with any belt.

And who said anything about the crankshaft pulley????

The tensioners on 25mm and 28mm belts are the same. The crank pulleys are not... but you don't change the pulley when you change the belt!
