Postby dc1984 » Mon Apr 08, 2013 9:29 am

Hi folks.

I am thinking about buying one of those ebay universal kits for my beavertail mk5 but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of these kits?
Also am i best going to for for a new lock set?

Thanks,
David.

Thanks mate. Where did you get it from and do you have a rough idea how much they are?

Thanks,
David.

I think I paid around £50 but can't remember off top of my head, I bought it direct from hawk alarms. Easy enough to wire up and does the job :) just gotta get round to sorting the central locking part lol.

Last few installs I have done have been Scorpion with OEM CL kits. Not had a problem with them ever.

Cheers lads,

I randomly found a new, still boxed Falcon Preditor Evo 3 alarm for £40 on gumtree and it's only 2 miles from my front door :D
I think I will ask my local Ford dealer for a price for central locking and a new lock set.

I found aftermarket lock sets on eBay but I'm not sure if my key has a chip in it, is there any way to find out? It's just a basic Key I have without any buttons.

Thanks,

David.

Regardless of the chip mate you'll be fine, the chip is just for immobiliser I believe.

Just buy a universal central locking kit, about 12 quid on eBay and easy to fit . Lock sets too are cheap on there. There are guides on here as to fitting the lock motors

Ok, word of advice to those fitting a standard aftermarket CL kit to a mk5 - DONT!

All morning and most of this afternoon has been spent on this and I have ONE door on the system and now been rained off. Any pretnce of doing a howto has gone too.

Door card off and your first problem is the metal security sheild round the lock. No problem as 4 rivets to drill out and its all exposed. Then theres the bloody plastic cover to do battle with. now....

EVERY car I've done the lock rod is free to move at all times, meaning if the key is in or out of the lock the rod cam move. Mornally its a centre sprung affair and the lock barrel simply moved a cam or similar leaving the rod free to move. Not so here. The rod is free to move ONLY to the lock position, it will not move to the unlock position less the key is in. This means you cant attach to the lock rod. The cable mech used for the door handle precludes the use of that so you are left with one choice. Disable the key lock in the door and drive the lock rod directly from the servo. My lock is nadgered and thats why I'm doing this, so no biggie there.

Next issue is the two normal servos you get dont quite have enough throw AND they move in the wrong direction, eg, up unlocks, where on the Transit, up locks. Simply flip the servo wires AND the master switch wires, else the module will command unlock, see the servo move to lock, and try and command a lock again and so on. The throw issue, with careful adjusting you can get it to sit in just the right place to lock and unlock. Everything is threadlocked because I can see it moving otherwise.

No, PAS door is going to be the same, which will also mean loosing the keylock in the door. I'm guessing back and side doors wont, so as long as I have a door the keys can open I'm happy disconnecting both front locks. I have no bulkhead so leaning over the seat isnt an issue.

I'd suggest the BEST route would actually be to fit the Ford lock mechs with the servo from a CL van/car.

You actually did it wrong, you don't attach to the lock barrel rod you need to drill a hole into one of the levers on the door lock unit itself to enable you to attach a rod For the solenoid. It's been covered on Here already, I have already fitted one of these kits to my mk5 with remote central locking including the sliding door and you can still use the keys

If you take the lock unit put of the door and lock and unlock the door with the handle you will see a little lever being flicked back and forth, that's the one you drill into to attach a rod to I can't remember what the title of the post on here that details all this with pictures
