Mk5 transit mods, bits, tips and tricks

Postby Maz » Tue May 14, 2013 2:03 pm

Hi all,
I've got a W reg, lwb, semi hi-top transit minibus non turbo 2.5 diesel
I'm wanting to get a bit more power and performance on it (also needs a new injector but thats another thread...)

I've seen the egr and fuel pump mod http://fordtransit.org/articles/engine/ ... wer-mk5-di

Theres an egr blanking plate on ebay http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 9891240246
It just saves a bit of time and hassle if I buy one rather than make one

I've seen something about a leak off mod - can someone explain it to me please or point me in the right direction on where to get a good description of what it is?

I'm getting s service kit too

Then theres the 2 stroke in with the diesel - what does it do? I'd really like to know about this and how it works, so I'd really appreciate any advice on that one

Any other advice tips on these vans I'd love to hear too

Thanks :D

2 stroke actes like a cleaning fluid for the injectors stop the tips of the injectors carboning up :D

for the egr plate id get one with slits in so you can just slide it place or just cut them in when you get it

So how much 2 stroke am I looking to add when fill up? Bearing in mind that I usually put in about £30ish a week
And what type of 2 stroke do I use? I use stihl ultra 2 stroke oil for my tools at work http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007TJK ... 276&sr=8-1
Would that be suitable?

Is the leak off mod worth doing?

Karl is it just for convenience to have a blanking plate that slides in place or is there another reason, just wanna know really :)

Ahh okay, thanks for that :)

Do you know if that stihl 2 stroke I linked to would be okay to use or is any 2 stroke fine to stick in the tank?

Not much in the way of details to go on with that, but it looks to be stupidly expensive

So long as it's 2 stroke self mixing oil, designed to mix with petrol to run a 2 stroke piston engine, then anything will do the job IMO 8)

I use asda's finest. £5 a litre, i just slug about 1 1/2 inches out the bottle to £20 of derv, you won't do any damage if you put in more.

It is stupidly expensive but I get it on the work account - crazy money for 2 stroke eh?!

You want the plain mineral 2stroke oil, not the synthetic stuff as it doesnt work as well and mineral is far cheaper to buy, I get a gallon for £9+ pennies at the local factors. I put around 300-350ml ina tank full but abit more wont do any harm, it takes a while for the difference to show, but it makes mine run like a sewing machine instead of a bag of spanners.
