Over drive

Postby transitambulance » Tue May 14, 2013 4:20 pm

Hi I need help. I have a 1989 transit ambulance. Originally it was a 3 litre v6 what gearbox would this have had. It now has a 2.5 di the early one with a four speed box with overdrive. My problem is I need the plugs that plug into the over drive switches. As I have none or the wires on the van too the switches. As it is revving like mad in forth at 40 mph I think it needs sorting. Dose the overdrive box belong to the diesel engine??
Please help dave.

Living dangerously, you can use a direct feed to the solenoid via a switch, to engage/disengage the overdrive. DON'T try to reverse or roll back in overdrive! Disengage O/D before coming to a halt or moving off. Wire up the switches as soon as you can, from memory they're just in series to stop you engaging O/D in 1st, 2nd or reverse.

Thanks van fox I will try that. Any idea where I get the plugs to fit the switches? Or can I buy switches with spade connectors on?

:D the 4 speed o/Drive box would have been the correct one for the V6 3 litre engine.

As I recall they're just bullet connectors so use single bullets.
